Trzepacz reviews Bare

Saturday Review: “Hope, Heart and Heroism” a review by Abby Trzepacz of Omega Crag (2024) a novel by Micki Bare in NCLR Online Spring 2025

Omega Crag is the third book in Micki Bare’s series “Zahra of the Uwharries,” which is set in the Birkhead Mountains of central North Carolina. Trzepacz writes “readers get to see the magical elements of Bare’s story within the natural environs of her home state.” The review talks about Zahra’s journey as a scarebin who must save all sacrebin kind with the help of her friends and mentors.

The main theme of this book picks up from the previous installment, Blind Fairy (2022). Omega Crag focuses on the idea of “following your heart and hope.” As Zahra is dealt challenge after challenge she is often reminded of her friends and mentors who offer her both physical and emotional support throughout her journey.

Omega Crag is a captivating continuation of Zahra’s journey, offering readers a mix of magic, adventure, emotional growth, and important life lessons.” Trzepacz writes. “Bare succeeds in creating a character who is both relatable and extraordinary, leaving her young readers waiting eagerly for the next installment of this series.”
