The North Carolina Literary Review is pleased to announce workshops hosted by Joseph Bathanti and Michael Ramos intended to celebrate and promote collaboration with North Carolina Active Duty Military and Veteran writers and family members writing about their experience of having loved ones in the service.
On Saturday, November 1st, Michael Ramos will be hosting a writing workshop near Durham, NC, from 1-4pm (location: The Joel Fund offices, 822 S White St, Suite 106, Wake Forest, NC 27587). Professor Ramos is the esteemed author of The After: A Veteran’s Notes on Coming Home, and serves as the Art Director for Ecotone Magazine.
On Thursday, December 4th, Joseph Bathanti will be hosting a writing workshop at the Cumberland County Regional Public Library (location: Headquarters Library, 300 Maiden Lane) in Fayetteville, NC, from 1-4pm. Professor Bathanti is the former Poet Laureate of North Carolina (2012-2014), and recipient of the 2016 North Carolina Award for Literature. JUST ADDED: Bathanti will also do a poetry reading & book signing at 6pm at City Center Books & Gallery, free & open to the public.

Both workshops are an excellent opportunity to collaborate with and receive feedback from esteemed writers and community members, in addition to preparing for competition submissions.

Anyone is welcome to attend both or either workshop; NCLR will accept submissions for publication consideration to our 2026 issues, featuring military writing, from both workshops’ attendees.
