2022 Betts Fiction Prize Judge Interview

Friday from the Archives: Our 2022 Doris Betts Fiction Prize final judge, Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle, was interviewed by Kirstin L. Squint for the 2021 issue. Read this interview talking about her novel Even as We Breathe (2020), the first novel by a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Then submit your fiction to this year’s contest (deadline October 31).

And looking forward: NCLR 2023, guest edited by Kirstin Squint, will feature Native American Literature of North Carolina and will include an essay by Clapsaddle, an essay on her novel, and an essay on her nonfiction.
