’22 Albright Prize Winner and Finalists Reading on Feb 9

Audrey Jennifer Smith, Angela Belcher Epps, and Blaise Kielar will read from their creative nonfiction essays on Thursday, February 9th, at Scuppernong Books in Greensboro, NC, at 6:30 p.m. Judge David Cecelski will also attend.


“In the Summer of Missing Girls” by Audrey Jennifer Smith of Greensboro, NC was the ’22 winner; her essay will appear in the forthcoming 2023 print issue.

Angela Belcher Epps’s will read from “Those Awful Family Trees” which was published in NCLR 2022 Fall Online. Blaise Kielar will read from “Violin Shop: Behind the Velvet Counter” which will be included in NCLR 2023 Winter Online.

The Alex Albright Creative Nonfiction Prize was created in 2015 to honor the founding editor of the North Carolina Literary Review. The first Albright Prize winner was published in the 25th issue of NCLR in 2016. The competition requires no submission fee, but writers must subscribe to NCLR to submit.
