Join the 2023 Guest Feature Editor, Dr. Kirstin Squint, and our 2023 Randall Kenan Prize winning author Dr. Jane Haladay for a lecture and workshop based on her essay, “Coming Home: Affirming Community through Lumbee Children’s Literature.”

Dr. Jane Haladay, Professor of American Indian Studies at UNC Pembroke, will give the Eutsler Lecture in Children’s Literature,”Coming Home: Affirming Community through Lumbee Children’s Literature,” discussing her research on using NC Native-authored children’s books in her service-learning classes.

Dr. Haladay will give a pedagogical workshop for students and instructors on how to engage students and community members with NC literature through service learning classes. She has used NC Native (Lumbee)-authored texts in her service learning classes at UNC Pembroke and their work with local elementary schools.
